39
PyCon India 2019 wrap-up

40
Pretty fun weekend, I'd say

41
I’m writing this article as I sit in class, back on the grind. Last
42weekend—Oct 12th and 13th—was PyCon India 2019, in Chennai, India.
43It was my first PyCon, and my first ever talk at a major conference!
44This is an account of the all the cool stuff I saw, people I met and the
45talks I enjoyed.
46Forgive the lack of pictures – I prefer living the moment through my
47eyes.

48
49
Talks

50
51
So much ML! Not that it’s a bad thing, but definitely interesting to
52note. From what I counted, there were about 17 talks tagged under “Data
53Science, Machine Learning and AI”. I’d have liked to see more talks
54discussing security and privacy, but hey, the organizers can only pick
55from what’s submitted. ;)

56
57
With that point out of the way, here’s some of the talks I really liked:

58
59

60
Python Packaging - where we are and where we’re headed by Pradyun

61
Micropython: Building a Physical Inventory Search Engine by Vinay

62
Ragabot - Music Encoded by Vikrant

63
Let’s Hunt a Memory Leak by Sanket

64
oh and of course, David Beazley’s closing
65keynote

66

67
68
My talk (!!!)

69
70
My good buddy Raghav and I spoke about
71our smart lock security research. Agreed, it might have been less
72“hardware” and more of a bug on the server-side, but that’s the thing
73about IoT right? It’s so multi-faceted, and is an amalgamation of so
74many different hardware and software stacks. But, anyway…

75
76
I was reassured by folks after the talk that the silence during Q/A was
77the “good” kind of silence. Was it really? I’ll never know.

78
79
Some nice people I met

80
81

82
Abhirath – A 200 IQ lad. Talked to
83me about everything from computational biology to the physical
84implementation of quantum computers.

85
Abin – He recognized me from my
86r/unixporn posts, which was pretty
87awesome.

88
Abhishek

89
Pradyun and Vikrant (linked earlier)

90

91
92
And a lot of other people doing really great stuff, whose names I’m
93forgetting.

94
95
Pictures!

96
97
It’s not much, and
98I can’t be bothered to format them like a collage or whatever, so I’ll
99just dump them here – as is.

100

102
103
104

105
106
C’est tout

107
108
Overall, a great time and a weekend well spent. It was very different
109from your typical security conference – a lot more chill, if you
110will. The organizers did a fantastic job and the entire event was put
111together really well.
112I don’t have much else to say, but I know for sure that I’ll be
113there next time.

114
115
That was PyCon India, 2019.
